Well, well, looks like we squeaked by before Maxwell’s silvery white hammer came down on our heads Tuesday night! We had a gorgeous fall day for last Sunday’s hike - t-shirt weather, picturesque countryside, amiable company, all capped off with a delightfully tasty supper at the Dancing Sky Theatre.
Several visitors and new members made it out, and along with veteran hikers making up the bulk of the group we hit a total of 22. We were short a few bodies to fill the quota I had promised the caterer at Dancing Sky. It would be nice to see a few more members take advantage of all the work that goes into organizing such fun events for the Club. Shouldn’t be that hard with a membership of 700 plus!
Now that we’ve managed to locate a privately catered supper close to the hiking area and word gets around about this new hike, the response should pick up noticeably down the road. “I think it’s one of the most beautiful hikes we’ve ever done,” remarked one of our former hiking coordinators to me part way through the hike. I couldn’t agree more! The attached photos will attest to that sentiment!
We skip hiking Thanksgiving Sunday and pick up the schedule on Oct. 16 with the Borden Hike. This is also a catered supper that requires registration by Oct. 9 with hike leader Bob Katarynych (306-373-1438). The remaining hikes this season are listed on the Events calendar via the Nordic site home page. I’m leading the Wakaw hike in the Minichinas Hills on Nov. 6, another topographically intriguing area, and the last one scheduled.
An important note re internal communications for anyone interested in the club’s touring program: any member can join the club’s Yahoo sport group to receive email updates on changes or last minute cancellation of hiking & skiing tours. If you don’t already have a Yahoo account, you will be required to establish one as part of the approval process, as this is a restricted group, not available to non-club members.
