Happy Holidays to everyone!
We are looking forward to a break, and hoping for snow before Christmas. Keeping our fingers crossed!
As some of you may have heard, our lobbying related to having the winterized washroom and warmup facility included in Phase 1 (i.e., next 5 years) of the the Kinsmen Park Master Plan was successful. This is great news!
Thanks to everyone who wrote letters and emails to their city councillors letting them know about the issue, and who attended the various open houses conducted as part of the public consultation process. I am personally grateful to the capable members of the Kinsmen Park Ski committee who so successfully brought the importance of skiing in Kinsmen Park to the forefront. Members of the SNSC on this committee included Cliff Speer, Jeff Whiting, John Sheard, Kevin Robinson, and Steve Shirtliffe.
After a long city council meeting on December 5, City Council passed a motion indicating that the winterized warm-up and washroom facility in addition to the ski bridge would be moved into Phase 1 of the Kinsmen Park Master Plan. Implementation of these facilities within the next 5 years will be pending funding. To that end, the SNSC will be working with the City of Saskatoon to pursue corporate sponsors for these important components of the winter concept plan. We plan to initiate further discussions with the City of Saskatoon in the New Year 2012.
The Vision 2020 committee is continuing to make progress on their initiatives for 2012. The sub-committee looking for a "home" met in mid December and will be meeting again in mid January. Jeff Whiting has generously offered to chair this sub-committee. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in participating in this committee.
